Located in the retreat residence of Li Lianying, one of the most famous court eunuchs of the late Qing dynasty. A spacious and winding traditional courtyard house with a large garden and reflecting pool in the center. There is no doubt about it, this place is posh. There is no public dining area, you and your party will eat in a private room off of one of the many courtyards. The furniture, decoration, and table settings are all absolutely top quality and basically give the impression that whoever is treating you to dinner (you're not paying for this, right?) is trying really really hard to impress you. Enough about the setting already, the cuisine is Cantonese with a heavy emphasis on seafood in the menu. Eating a decent meal at this restaurant will run you USD 15 / person and really the sky is the limit in terms of how much you might end up spending here what with all the shark fin, abalone, and swallows nest options on the menu. Many of the staff and chefs are actually from Guangdong, so as far as we can tell, the cuisine is as genuinely Cantonese as you will find in Beijing. This restaurant is a top contender for the most beautiful or traditional setting in which to enjoy a luxurious meal in all of Beijing.
