There is a lot to be said for the only “Caravan” themed restaurant that I know of in China. Gold Stone Caravan restaurant resides in a renovated historical house near Green Lake in Kunming. Many of the large tables are surrounded by chairs that are literally saddles which you straddle while eating your meal. The waitstaff is clad in chaps and other horse gear. The waitstaff is friendly. Menus jingle with caravan bells.
The English menu at this restaurant, however, is one of the very worst I’ve ever encountered in China. Let’s start with a shot of the cover which advertises the restaurant as a “Hoyse” restaurant:
But it actually gets better when you open the menu to read …
The other thing to note about the English menu is that it is identical to the Chinese menu in every respect, except about 30% more expensive. That’s almost grounds for encouraging readers to never visit this restaurant, but there’s so much other weird and awesome stuff going on here that I can’t find it in my heart to give it the total thumbs down. I will bring it up with the management next time I’m through though.
