Incredible Meal in North Point, Hong Kong

Posted: Aug. 01, 2009

I’m back in Hong Kong for a couple of days and last night had another fantastic meal at Dong Po, the locally renowned cafeteria and wet market located right at the Java Road exit of the North Point MTR stop on Hong Kong Island.

This time I had the fortune of going with two old hands who know the owner of the huge, bustling restaurant. They ordered a meal which they described as the “greatest hits” dishes that they’ve discovered there over the past several years.

The most outstanding dish of the evening was the squid ink noodles.

This dish is squid and noodles, stir fried in squid ink. Eat it with a group and find out why it’s recommended by three out of four goth kids. The remnants of the dish made a Rorschach blot on the bone white China.

Any culinary trip to Hong Kong needs to include a stop at this place.
